Our Story
Ben Mast grew up working on his family’s farm in Walnut Creek. From that knowledge gained taking care of the chicken farms, he took the risk and bought his first trucks in 1978 to haul live chickens.
He bought 6 trucks and flatbed trailers with coops to contain the live chickens. Several years later he started hauling dump bodies during the day and chickens at night. By the mid-eighties, business was growing, and the economy was booming. Ben had the opportunity to haul automotive parts into a local automotive supply chain facility, and he bought two more trucks and van trailers.
He was very successful in the automotive industry providing “Just-in-Time” deliveries (smaller and more frequent deliveries), which established B & L Transport as a sought-after carrier.
While Ben worked to expand the company, his son Jon grew up alongside him, playing in the truck garage and in his father’s office. After high school and college, he worked in the garage, assisting the truck mechanics. He was committed to becoming familiar with all aspects of the business. He was a driver for almost two years. Then, he was involved in Human Resources, hiring drivers and helping take measures to prevent safety issues. After that, he spent time dispatching drivers and scheduling loads. As time went by, Jon became more involved in customer relations as well as writing lane bids and proposals. Now the President and Director of Operations, Jon has certainly continued the family legacy of continuing the principals of honesty and integrity in providing professional service to customers.
